A heavy snow storm is passing across Europe, blanketing ski areas in up to 110cm of fresh snow in just 24 hours.

Ski resorts in Austria, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Andorra are all reporting plenty of fresh snow on the slopes. Snow started falling over the weekend and continued today with more expected throughout the week.

Snow is widespread across the Swiss Alps with 17 powder alarms set off today. [R640R, Sedrun] is reporting 60cm on the bottom slopes and 100cm at the top in the last 24 hours. [R608R, Grindelwald] and [R616R, Andermatt-Gotthard] saw 50cm today and had to close temporarily due to poor visibility. 30-45cm has also fallen on [R606R, Adelboden], [R609R, Gstaad], [R630R, Davos], [R633R, Klosters], and [R634R, Lenzerheide].

France is a whiteout today with 19 powder alarms going off: 50cm of fresh snow has fallen in [R603R, Serre Chevalier] and 40-45cm is reported in [R586R, Isola 2000], [R2397R, Risoul], [R2330R, Puy St. Vincent], [R1685R, Montgenevre], and [R591R, Vars]. The resorts of [R483R, Val d'Isere], [R600R, Tignes], and [R593R, Les Deux Alpes] opened Saturday, Nov. 28 to perfect conditions after a fresh dusting of 15-20cm of snow over the weekend.

Italy boasts the heaviest snowfall in 24 hours with a massive 110cm in [R1950R, Alpe Devero] (open at weekends) and 90cm in [R2448R, Madesimo]. Plan-Val Passiria and [R604R, Cortina d'Ampezzo] saw 60cm today while [R1326R, Livigno], [R2717R, Monterosa], and Comprensorio Ski Civetta saw 50cm.

The heaviest snow in Austria has fallen on the western ski resorts: [R565R, Soelden] is reporting 52cm of fresh snow today alone and the [R726R, Moelltaler Glacier] and [R2765R, Damuels] saw 15-20cm today.

The Andorran resorts of [R1548R, Arcalis] and [R1549R, Arinsal] saw 10cm of fresh snow today with more on the way this week. This is very good news as these resorts had planned to open Nov. 28, but they had to postpone to Dec. 5 after sunny weather melted the snow.
