Me and my friends have been going to La Rosiere for over last 20 years and we love the place. However, the ski runs quality are getting neglected year on year when the price of the ski pass price is going up every years. they seems to try on saving money with NO "damage" or very little during the quiet weeks..............Shame. Connection to Italy (16/01)not being done/ Opened despite nice weather!!Again we get charged for it for the full week..........this not the first year that complaint about it and nothing gets done..........

Absolutely one of my favourite places to ski. Have been hankering after skiing in La Rosiere for a while and was not disappointed when we visited over Christmas/New Year 2016/17. Having skied the vast majority of Alpine resorts, big and small, over the last 30+ years you shouldn't underestimate how fun this resort is. Whilst the skiing may not be as extensive as some of the larger ski areas - 3 Valleys, Portes du Soleil etc there is plenty to keep you entertained for a week, particularly with children, and especially when the link to La Thuile is open. This link can be closed in bad weather but that's the same for any connected ski area. The skiing, in general, has a good mix of greens for beginners, some excellent cruisy blues, a mixture of challenging reds over various terrain and a few mind-blowing steep black runs. Overall the skiing on the French side is slightly easier and is mainly south facing so plenty of sunshine to be enjoyed. On the Italian side, which is predominantly north facing, the runs are more challenging and can tend to be a little icier as a consequence of their position. The only area of the resort I didn't particularly enjoy was the drop down to Les Eucherts which can get very congested with ski schools and people returning at the end of the day to that area of the village which can result in scraped (icy) pistes - think Meribel but on a smaller scale. If you are thinking of heading to La Rosiere I would stay in accommodation at the top of the village, close to the lifts, otherwise, you'll have to do a little bit of walking or catch the navette which drops you in the main resort car park. The resort is reasonably quiet, as are the pistes, so this is a great place for families and for first-timers. If you are a good/expert skier then give La Rosiere a try - you will not be disappointed. The ability to ski to Italy and back, despite the links being a little slow, in time for ski school drop off and pick up is not to be sniffed at! If you do get bored you can hop down the road to Sainte Foy, although the piste skiing isn't that great IMHO. Alternatively, you can be in Les Arcs or Espace Killy (Tignes/Val D'Isere) in less than an hour by driving to the bottom of the lift systems. PS - please don't go - I want to keep this hidden gem to myself!!!

Great for intermediate and young families.
fantastic for young families. New mountain restaurants really add to it as well.
advanced skiers have only a few runs to really test them and some are on the Italian side.

Great family friendly resort on the France/Italy border. Skiing is usually fabulous for the kids/beginners and intermediates on the La Rosiere side of the mountain and for more exciting and difficult runs head over the top to La Thuile and the Italian side - different climate here. So if cold and/or icy in La Rosiere head to La Thuile and vice versa. Some good powder skiing on the Italian side also which tends to be less sunny in the main. The resort and accommodation we found to be excellent. Re-booked for next season already, as did other guests in our chalet!!
Great family resort. Ski in ski out.
Can be on the quiet side if you are looking for exciting apres ski

Although it seems like a traditional resort, most of La Rosiere has been built especially for skiing in the past few decades and it closes down completely in Spring and Autumn. On the plus side this means most facilities are fairly convenient and ski area itself well designed, on the down side it doesn't have much more character than a shopping Mall. We stayed in the newer development which is about a kilometre from the original village, which we hardly visited. The new part had a handful of very nice bars and restaurant and what I think is the resort's new recreational area off the slopes with a little bowling alley, games room and ice rink. So whilst night life wasn't very lively - like most French purpose built resorts, it was good enough for the three nights we stayed. The ski area is mostly made up of fast long blues and reds served by some nice fast chairlifts. The big point of interest is the cross border connection to Italy which I heard is quite often closed, usually because it gets very windy and i think there can be avalanche danger. It is a lengthy plateau with long flats and drag lift rides, the wind means its great for ski kiting and we saw some guys whizing around. The Italian side has some interesting trails carved down through the woodlands and it's great to pop over, eat so,me pasta and pizza (Not that there's any problem getting those in Ia Rosiere, but that's hardly the point).
Great views, big cross border ski area, good new facilities and restaurants
Usual French purpose built problem - little character or nightlife.

Found on the opposite side of the valley to Les Arcs, La Rosiere is a great resort. La Rosiere doesn't seem to attract the crowds that frequent it's neigbours (Arcs, La Plagne, Val D'Isere, Tignes), which is surprising as the terrain is very good, lots of variety to suit beginners and experts alike. It also has the added bonus of linking in with La Thuile, in Italy, making for a surprisingly large ski area. It's great to be able to ski over to Italy, have a photo at the border, then partake of an authentic pizza lunch before heading for home. There's some good, and easily accessible, off-piste available too. The pass that links La Rosiere to La Thuile has one of the longest drag lifts in the world. The lift runs mostly flat so it's not too much of a pain, and you can always contemplate on the fact that this is where Hannibal crossed the alps with his elephants. The ski school in La Rosiere is excellent and it really is a resort that caters well for families. Unfortunately, the nightlife is not that great but if you're in a group then you can easily make your own entertainment. I like this place.
Unspoilt Tarentaise resort, history of elephants
Nightlife not the best, no more elephants
