I liked the skiing here so much I bought an apartment, if you want no frills skiing hassle free restaurants and a nice relaxed vibe then perfect for you. Well set up for beginners with the nursery slopes right next to two great restaurants so even non skiers can admire the views and and watch those that venture onto the slopes. Resort level has everything you need ski hire, restaurants x3 and a bar together with mini mart but don’t expect girls dancing on tables in the evening because this isn’t the right place.
Quiet resort in comparison to Morzine and Les Gets
Sometimes lack of snow at lower levels late season

A fantastic, small and friendly resort where all staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and hassle free. A perfect place for our three daughters to learn to ski and enough to keep my husband and I entertained with the red and blue runs. The quietest ski resort we have ever visited, where you don't have to question for lifts or toilets. Can't wait to go back we loved it.
Family friendly, no ques for lifts.
Limited skiing for advanced skiers.
Have been going to La Grande Terche for 15 years and it has improved year upon year. Accommodation in the village close to the slopes and staff so helpful on the ski lifts. Circuit de Roc d’Enfer is stunning and great that it’s open for longer in season now due to a cleverly placed drag lift - but a bit sad that you can’t continue the pathway down to the village anymore - always useful if you live on the west side of the village! Le Tavaillon restaurant was closed this year - so sad, it was definitely the best restaurant in the Portes du Soleil with it’s simple but delicious food, sun terrace, log fire. Perfection!
Small village atmosphere, helpful staff, few queues

We have been going to St Jean d'Aulps / La Grande terche for over 10 years and love it as a family friendly resort and its proximity to the wider Porte D Soliel. St Jean d'Aulps is a relatively small village consisting of a few chalets and modern owner let apartments. Accommodation can be booked through local estate agents, online search sites, and local tourist information website. On the slopes there are two good restaurants, an in the village there are a couple more along with a few bars - it is not a resort for night life party seekers, but for those who appreciate stunning scenery, well kept runs, and less queues and cost than most other resorts. There is a variety of of beginner / nursery slopes at circa 1500m which is of benefit early / late season, and there are some great scenic tree lined longer runs on the Roc d' Enfer circuit for the more competent skiers. The scenery is stunning with clear views to Mont Blanc on a sunny day and a glimpse of Lake Geneva in the opposite direction. With circa 60km of skiing these days lift passes present excellent value for money and season passes purchased early are an absolute bargain compared to the larger French resorts. Added to this the local staff are exceedingly helpful and speak good English. This resort is well worth serious consideration for families and couples alike who do not want long lift queues, expensive lift passes, and high restaurant costs at lunchtime! And don't forget the summer - beautiful local villages, fantastic walking and mountain biking, lots of beautiful lakes to swim in and some fantastic beaches on lake Geneva 30mins away....the best being Excenevex with golden sand and stunning mountain backdrop!
