Great area. Excellent ski school. Good for beginners with easy access to several other resorts for more intermediate and advanced skiers.
Got a unexpected chance to take a week off work, so it was a frantic search on the net for a holiday, kidnapped my seven year old niece and off we flew to a location I knew little about. Kerchdorf is a well kept little village with 3 Spar shops that shut from 12.30 to two each day and are not open Sundays. A couple of restaurants which we did not sample as we were staying in a hotel on a full board bases, a bakery and a perfumery, a hardware store and a very expensive shoe shop. There are claims that the place has a swimming pool but it hasn't , it has a sauna that we visited a couple of times, being nude is compulsory. the pool is quite small, it is more of a relaxation area. Also saw a disco but being with a seven year old I did not visit it The larger of the two slopes was shut. The open lift was a very timid beginners slope. It was virtually deserted used by a few children whose ages ranged from two to four. It was OK for the first two hours as you get used to your skis again, but after a short while we caught the free bus to nearby St. Johann. The morning and last bus was quite crowded and for the last four days hired a car - paid for a Fiesta got an Audi A3 I think it is a wonderful little village, for a quiet or romantic weekend away, For a skiing holiday I rather be somewhere like St. Johann or Fieberbrunn
Great for first time skiers, ski bus
Very Small
Another wonderful trip to Kirchdorf for our second skiing holiday. We stayed at the Mountain High this time which we had visited for the quiz the year before. A lovely friendly family hotel, with excellent food, lovely clean rooms and best of all a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. We would definitely choose to stay here again. The ski school was once again brilliant, myelf, my husband and our 15 year old daughter were with Raemond and our 12 year old son was lucky enough to rejoin Gordons group, keeping us improving very rapidly but still making everyday fun. Cant wait for next year!
Excellent food and lovely rooms, 5 mins to slopes and free ski bus
Not really a con, fairly quiet in the evening with a few bars
My kids had a great time learning to ski with one of the best ski schools we've seen. Kirchdorf only has 3 slopes but there is so much more choice only minutes away from the ski resort
The ski school and a free bus to surronding mountains
There is very little to do at night
Just returned from a Crystal holiday to Kirchdorf, and had a fantastic time. We were complete beginners, so this resort was an ideal choice. Very good instructors and excellent slopes for a starter. We fell very lucky and met a good group of people which made the apres ski - if your not so lucky, the options for apres ski are limited. Free ski bus to other resorts to Steinplatte and St Johann, where there are numerous red and blue slopes for the more competant skier. If as we you are complete beginners the Crysal learn to ski inclusive option is a very good idiot proof guide to starting to ski and takes care of everything you need. Finally cannot recommend hotel Seiwald enough - great food, great facilities and very friendly staff - especially in the beerkeller.
Ski School, hotels, access to other slopes
quiet nightlife, limited food options
An excellent resort for first time skiers or the intermediate, with the benefit of having a free ski bus to take you the surrounding villages, which are 15/20 mins away, as you become more proficient. The ski school could not have been better, the instructors were entertaining, encouraging and highly skilled, managing to keeping us all on a fairly even level, and we progressed from the nursery slopes to skiing the Steineplatte surprisingly quickly. We will happily go back next year and have a few days in the intermediate class for both the instruction, and because it was such a pleasure skiing with them. The village itself had everything you need with a bank, a couple of supermarkets, bakers, ski hire/purchase but was not busy and overpopulated. There are plenty of lovely bars and a disco for apres ski, and there are weekly quizzes, sleighrides and curling but this is still a fairly quiet village and doesnt cater for the all night clubbers like some of the bigger resorts. There is also a Sports Wellness centre with table tennis, pool and snooker, a fully equipped gym and a full sized indoor tennis court should you have the energy after the slopes! We stayed at a hotel on the edge of the nursery slopes, with an indoor pool which was a bonus, which was excellent, great food, lovely and clean and nice friendly staff. We loved it and look forward to returning next year.
excellent ski school, free ski bus to surrounding villages
a little quiet for those who want to party til dawn
An excellent resort to learn to ski or to improve your ability. I went to Poiana Brasov the year before and Kirchdorf has better facilities in a small village than the largest resort in Romania. The ski school organises everything for you when the snow was bad last year they saved my holiday moving the classes to the Steinplatte.Lots of people go back year after year. A wonderful Austrian experience.
