This is an excerpt of an email I sent to Vail customer service director along with Stevens pass customer service. This email was ignored and never responded too. It turned out after my wife once again called Stevens Pass to plead for an option, they offered to sell us a pass until Jan 1, not online or over the phone, only at the desk. Sir, This will be my last season at Stevens Pass. After 30 years of skiing and snowboarding and even working a season during my college years in the rental department I've never felt undervalued at Stevens, until now. I and my wife chose to purchase Epic local passes for my two boys this season to kick off their experience of enjoying the pass more than once or twice a year. As we logged into the the Stevens website on Oct 12th we carefully read through each option that was available to us and made our decision. In the option we chose it talked about 6 buddy passes that would come with each pass purchased. The verbage lead us to believe that the buddy passes meant that each boy would have 6 individual day pass tickets if they were to bring a friend or family member. We made the decision to purchase these passes with the intent to have me go with them each time to help them learn to snowboard. Now that the season has started we have been up twice. The first time I was able to obtain a day pass from a friend who couldn't use it after purchasing it. The next time we came up, Dec 25th, we were told that the Epic local passes Do Not come with buddy passes unless you purchase from March-April and that the Ski with a friend pass is a small dicount from the window ticket price. Very different that what was talked about on the Stevens site when we purchased. A "buddy" pass in the rest of the world typically means free. Much like the Alaska Airlines buddy tickets that used to exist for credit card users or other such offers from companies. In fact, I used to board at Snow Basin in UT, and in years past when you purchase a seasons pass you would get "Buddy" passes which meant free day passes for friends and family. Only 6 per season pass. You see where I'm going with this. Now, I not only don't have "buddy" passes which I thought I did, I don't have the option to purchase a Season Pass at Stevens as they are taken off the system on Dec 2nd. I will now have to purchase a day pass each day I want to ride with my kids and spend close to twice as much as I would have with a season pass. This is the most backwards thing I've ever heard in the 30 years coming to this resort. Aside from my own frustraition, what if someone moves to Washington after Dec 2nd and would like to purchase a Pass but cannot? Chances of them continuing to come up at the $111 day rate is lower than finding another resort. I understand inflation and overhead that the pass has to cover, but at $111 per day pass it's hard to justify not driving a bit further north to Mt. Baker or to Snoqualmie. This reminds me of that silly 2001 movie Out Cold where a resort in Alaska is the local favorite till the big coperate resort buys it up and changes everything for the worse. I've called and spoken to the coperate office about this issue and they are not willing to offer anything to us in way of selling a season pass " which I'm willing to purchase " or anything else.
