Nestled in the scenic heart of Buskerud County, Hemsedal is one of Norway’s premier winter resorts, drawing skiers from across Europe with its impressive altitude and reliable snow record. Positioned between Oslo and Bergen, its mountainous setting makes it a natural magnet for snow enthusiasts seeking dependable conditions and sweeping alpine views. The resort receives an average annual snowfall of 277 cm and offers 526 hectares of skiable terrain served by 22 modern lifts, including high-speed six- and eight-person lifts. With 47 pistes graded by difficulty—46% for beginners, 27% intermediate, 19% advanced, and 8% for expert skiers—the mountain layout caters to all skill levels.Hemsedal is especially appealing to families thanks to its wide selection of beginner-friendly slopes, child-specific lift passes, and family-dedicated zones such as the Miniski area and the Troll Club for younger children. Ski schools are well-staffed and multilingual, making progression easy and inclusive. Off the slopes, visitors find a compact village centre with accessible restaurants, grocery shops, and dedicated play areas that make staying with children less of a logistical challenge and more of a pleasure. The vertical drop of 810 m and a summit reaching 1450 m ensure plenty of varied terrain, complemented by snow-making capabilities across key sections of the resort. Visitors choose Hemsedal for its balance: challenging enough for avid skiers, approachable for novices, and welcoming for non-skiers with activities such as winter hiking, snowshoeing, and scenic chairlift rides. It's a complete alpine experience without needing to venture into the more commercialised corners of Europe's ski map.
