Alpenfest (Italy)

Where: Livigno, Italy

Alpenfest is an annual event held in the picturesque town of Livigno. It marks the end of summer when the cattle are brought down from the alpine pastures to spend winter in the village. The cattle and locals parade along the streets in traditional festive dress. Alpenfest is a celebration of Alpine culture, heritage, and traditions. During Alpenfest, the town becomes a lively hub of festivities, with activities like: traditional Alpine music, cultural performances, local dishes, and games like tug-of-war. Livigno itself is a popular destination for both winter sports, like skiing and snowboarding, and summer activities such as hiking and mountain biking.

Tour de France (France)

When: July

Where: Various locations, often passing through the French Alps

If you’re a cycling fan, the Tour de France offers an unforgettable experience as the race often passes through the majestic Alps. Whether you’re watching from the sidelines or cycling yourself, it’s a memorable event. The iconic cycling race often passes through the French Alps, with famous climbs like Alpe d’Huez, Col du Galibier, and Col de la Madeleine. Spectators can enjoy watching the world’s best cyclists tackle some of the most challenging mountain stages in the world.

Eiger Ultra Trail (Switzerland)

When: Late June

Where: Grindelwald, Switzerland

A challenging trail race that takes participants around the iconic Eiger Mountain. For those interested in extreme running and breathtaking mountain landscapes, this is an incredible event. This challenging mountain trail race circles the Eiger Mountain in the Swiss Alps. With several race categories, ranging from a 16km race to an extreme 101km ultra, this event attracts trail runners eager to test their limits in the shadow of one of the Alps’ most iconic peaks.

Omega European Masters (Switzerland)

When: August

Where: Crans-Montana, Switzerland

Held in the stunning Crans-Montana resort in the Swiss Alps, the Omega European Masters attracts professional golfers from around the world. The tournament is known for its breathtaking mountain backdrop and challenging course. The event takes place at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, one of the most scenic golf courses in the world. Located at an altitude of around 1,500 meters (4,900 feet), the course offers incredible views of the surrounding Alps and the Matterhorn. The course is famous for its beautiful and challenging layout, with narrow fairways, deep bunkers, and strategic greens.
