I take great pleasure in going to this resort where everything is peaceful. While it certainly has a certain affluence, ski enthusiasts are very much present. It's all about enjoyable and relaxing skiing... the ski schools are excellent and provide great supervision for children. The views across the entire ski area are stunning.
A family-friendly resort with fun skiing among the fir trees. Plenty of sunny slopes. Free train service between Rougemont and Saanenmöser via the MOB. Easy skiing and relaxation in a relaxed atmosphere. Affordable mountain restaurant.
Accommodation prices, and some of the lifts are not state-of-the-art.

We love Gstaad! It's simply fantastic for skiing and the atmosphere is dreamy. Yes, it's more expensive than elsewhere, but it's something truly special.

It's easy to see what this ski resort is all about: catering to the rich and famous. Bentleys are everywhere. If you want to sunbathe in your expensive fur coat, this is the place for you. I've been coming here on and off for over 20 years, so I can say with some authority. Skiing isn't exactly a priority here. The number of ski lifts is dwindling, as are the slopes, and even those that are groomed are rarely all maintained. Especially on the French-speaking side, they only do the bare minimum. To compensate for the declining number of skiers, they've significantly increased prices, which is why the value for money is no longer acceptable. Okay, the area from Zweisimmen to Schönried is considerably better; that part is actually suitable for skiing. But the rest is a patchwork of different slopes, and 79 CHF per day, plus almost 50 CHF for a child, is simply far too much.
Good for wearing a fur coat
Little snow, poorly groomed, too expensive

We have visited Gstaad a few times and apparently it is much nicer since the main street was pedestrianised and mrs thatcher stopped visiting, apparently it was her favourite resort and James Bond 007 and David Niven were also here a lot, Sophia Loren had a suiter in ther posh Palace Hotel I think. What I likled was that each morning you clomped out of the beautiful hotel in your ski boots and you could get on a train going left to the French speaking area and get off a few miles down the line at Rougemont and get on the gondola up, or go left in to the German speaking area and do the same at a resort like Saasnenmoser. You could decide which each morning and even change during the day as it was all included in your lift ticket - brilliant!
Choice of ski areas each morning from huge area on one lift ticket
Train to ski areas, very expensive
