The Bourg-Saint-Maurice funicular railway is strengthening its role in shaping mobility in the Tarentaise region. Around 25% of visitors to Les Arcs use the funicular to get to the resort – in six minutes, the cable car connects the valley to Les Arcs .
The Bourg-Saint-Maurice funicular railway now offers extended and better synchronised operating hours. Used by workers from 7:15 a.m., it then runs from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, with extended hours until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. These new hours are designed to coincide with the last trains from Paris and Lyon, making it easier to arrive late at the resort.
Beyond comfort, the challenge is clear: to enable seasonal workers and visitors alike to travel without a car, from the valley to the resort and vice versa. It also responds to the need to decarbonize mobility in the Alpine valleys.
This is a pragmatic development, designed to serve everyday needs and promote more sustainable mobility. Guillaume Desrues, mayor of Bourg Saint Maurice, and Aurélie Lévêque from ADS (Domaine de Montagne) explain how it works.
