The all-rounder for all types of snow
I combine a wide waist of 95–110 mm with a sporty construction, making me the perfect ski for the whole mountain. Given my generous width, you might expect a certain sluggishness on the piste, but nowadays the design has been tweaked so that I perform well even there. However, I really come into my own in deep powder and absolutely love cruising through the backcountry. In short: whatever the terrain – I’m a reliable, versatile partner for the whole day’s skiing.
My strengths
- Whether on the piste or in powder – I particularly favour softer snow conditions
- In tricky conditions (slush, etc.), I have a clear advantage over sportier skis, offering stability and smoothing out almost all bumps!
- In deep snow, I provide the necessary float: let’s surf!
My weaknesses
- When changing edges, I’m less responsive than narrower piste skis
- Fast carving requires strength and technique
- Icy, hard slopes aren’t my thing
Recommended length: Sporty, technically skilled skiers choose their freeride skis in lengths of 180–190 cm, whilst shorter and lighter all-mountain enthusiasts opt for models 5–10 cm shorter. The longer a freeride model is, the more float it offers, but it sacrifices manoeuvrability.
