Val Thorens Piste Map
Val Thorens boasts a well-designed and snow-sure ski area, offering reliable conditions from late November through early May. The resort provides 150 km of pistes within its own sector, but also connects seamlessly to the broader 3 Vallées network. The ski area starts at 1,825 metres and reaches a peak of 3,230 metres, delivering a vertical drop of 930 metres. With 85 pistes supported by 32 lifts—including gondolas, trams, and high-speed chairlifts—access across the terrain is efficient, keeping wait times minimal and allowing skiers to maximise their time on the slopes.
Beginners can take advantage of the resort’s designated learning zones near the village. These areas feature four covered magic carpets and spacious green pistes, ensuring a low-pressure environment for learning. A dedicated beginner lift pass grants access to eight easy lifts at a reduced rate, providing excellent value for those building confidence. A variety of blue pistes allows learners to progress steadily and explore more of the ski area.
Intermediate skiers benefit from a diverse selection of pistes suited to steady cruising and technical improvement. The terrain linking Val Thorens with Les Menuires and St. Martin offers long, well-groomed runs and scenic descents. Red pistes such as Dalles and Boismint present a satisfying challenge for those seeking an incremental step up in difficulty.
Advanced and expert skiers have access to 30 red and 8 black pistes, offering steep gradients, technical descents, and opportunities for freeriding. Classic runs such as Col de l’Audzin and Combe de Caron provide thrilling downhill experiences for those looking to push their limits. The Cascades piste is a standout mogul run, while high-elevation sections such as Mauriennaise offer reliably good snow conditions.
Freestyle enthusiasts will find plenty of features in the Snowpark at Plateau. Covering 90,000 square metres, it is divided into four ability zones, including an accessible beginner area and a Jump’Air feature for safe aerial practice. A dedicated boardercross track in the 2 Lacs area and a slalom stadium further enhance the resort’s terrain diversity, ensuring there is something for every type of skier.
