Geilo’s terrain is spread across both sides of the Ustedalsfjord, with the main ski areas being Vestlia, Kikut, Slaatta, Havsdalen, and Geilohovda. Each zone offers a distinct skiing experience, and all are connected via a free ski bus and a unified lift pass. Vestlia is particularly popular with beginners and families, featuring wide, gentle pistes and easy access to ski schools and children’s areas. The Trollbakken and Randi pistes are ideal for first-timers, with mellow gradients and conveyor lifts.

Kikut and Havsdalen cater to intermediate and advanced skiers, offering red and black pistes with consistent fall-lines and scenic views. The Bjødna and Havsdals runs are favourites for carving, while the Arne and Steinspretten pistes provide more technical descents. Havsdalen also features open slopes and ridge skiing, with panoramic views of Hallingskarvet and Hardangervidda.

Geilohovda and Slaatta offer a mix of intermediate and expert terrain, including the Ola piste—a steep black run with natural moguls—and the Geilo slope, which is well-groomed and suitable for high-speed turns. These areas are less crowded and provide a more secluded skiing experience. The Panorama Tour “Geilo High Five” links five peaks over 1,000 m and is a great way to explore the resort’s full range of terrain.

Freestyle enthusiasts will appreciate Geilo’s three terrain parks located in Vestlia, Kikut, and Slaatta. Designed by X Games winner Andreas Håtveit, these parks feature progressive lines, jumps, and rails for all skill levels. Vestlia’s park includes red and black jumps with night lighting, while Kikut offers green-blue and red lines with playful features. Slaatta’s park is ideal for beginners and includes terrain waves and tubes.

The resort’s longest run, the Bjødna piste in Vestlia, spans 2 km and offers a steady descent with lightly banked turns. Snowmaking covers over 80% of the terrain, ensuring reliable conditions throughout the season. Valley runs are available from all base stations, and the slopes are generally located below the tree line, providing shelter and visibility during snowfall.

Geilo’s terrain is thoughtfully designed to accommodate all skill levels. Beginners can build confidence on the Slatta and Havsdalen greens, intermediates will enjoy the varied reds across Kikut and Geilohovda, and experts can challenge themselves on the black runs of Gullsteinhovda and Geilohovda. With clear signage, well-prepared pistes, and a variety of landscapes, Geilo offers a rewarding skiing experience for every visitor.
