Ski enthusiasts, look elsewhere: We are a group of friends who spent a week in Alpe d'Huez this winter, and it's safe to say that our excitement about discovering a new ski area was somewhat dampened, despite the incredible weather. First, the ski lifts. Not a single day went by without major lifts (Alpe Express, Pic Blanc 1/2/3, Romains, Poutrans, Lièvre Blanc) being closed all day. This had a major impact on the rest of the ski area and prevented skiers from spreading out, resulting in considerable waiting times on the remaining lifts. Now, let's talk about the ski area itself. It is clearly undersized compared to the resort's capacity. Poorly connected and under-developed areas, a poorly served snow front with often overcrowded lifts, a free fast-track pass (reservation required, but likely not for long) to access Pic Blanc 3 (with a limited capacity of 600 people per hour) resulting in monstrous queues… In short, if you enjoy escaping the crowds and discovering the mountains, this is clearly not the ideal destination. The business model is there, with costs for customers constantly increasing and major events (Megavalanche, Tomorrowland Winter, the Tour de France) undoubtedly generating significant profits. Despite everything, the maintenance of the ski lifts is questionable, with major breakdowns occurring daily. There's been little investment in new infrastructure and new slopes that would improve the skier experience, and the grooming of the slopes sometimes leaves much to be desired. On the other hand, they've introduced a free priority access line to the resort's highest point, which will likely become a paid service in the future. They're also promoting the "Sarennes first runs at 8:30 am" package at €27, as if paying €66 for a lift pass (which increases every year without any expansion of the ski area) wasn't enough already. All of this raises questions and leaves one perplexed; it's clear that the customer isn't being respected. One positive point, however, is the pleasant atmosphere in the resort, with its two swimming pools, shops, and sports center. A friendly thought also for the friendly ski lift operators we met, as well as for Alexandre, Sophia, Hugo and Léo, ski and paragliding instructors who introduced us to their passion in the most beautiful way.
Resort life with shops, restaurants, swimming pools and a sports centre
Major ski lifts out of service, ski area not optimized, very long wait times.

One of my favourite resorts because of the vertical drop and the amount of red/black you can ski on this vertical drop. My only compaint about it is the black runs tend to be high (Pic Blanc sector) or at town level and are often closed after new snow. From mid March a lot of the lower blacks close for the season which means you need Pic Blanc to be open to get black runs.
Vertical drop is fab. 30mins to Pic Blanc and then skiing for an hour or two, Great satelite towns to visit. Great sking for all skiers from beginners to experts.
Accomodation is either expensive or very small - but thats skiing and at least in france you get the option of small at lower cost.

Outrageously expensive. Very few lifts, so long waits all the time, even outside of peak season. In strong winds, the few available slopes are closed, and of course, there are no refunds or discounts on lift passes.
Fast track
Too many people, too expensive, few slopes, the slightest gust of wind makes the slopes inaccessible

Alpe d'Huez caters to skiers of all levels, with a very interesting network of slopes that are far from being boring, wide runs. For non-skiers, there are beautiful walks and numerous cultural offerings, as the resort boasts a long history dating back to the Middle Ages, with excellent opportunities for guided tours. The Comedy Film Festival in January and Tomorrowland in April, the Tour de France passing through in the summer, the many mountain biking trails, the golf course, the museum, the altiport, and the ice rink all testify to Alpe d'Huez's ability to remain attractive to all generations.
Sunshine! The pleasure of returning to the resort in the sun, even for the last run! And if you're not skiing, the pedestrian paths connected by the lifts will lead you to numerous mountain restaurants with magnificent views. The stat
Some parking problems on busy days. A few cranes are still present to finalize new housing developments.

This station is extremely dangerous because it's overcrowded; serious accidents are on the rise, and the mayor and his team continue to build. It's terribly dangerous; this station should be avoided if you want to prevent accidents, especially with young people.

We purchased a TRIBU pass online for 1 child, 1 adult, and 1 senior citizen. Upon arrival, we discovered that the TRIBU pass was more expensive than if we had purchased the passes separately, approximately €56. Following advice from the staff selling the passes, we filed a complaint, which was rejected. No solution was offered other than this concluding sentence: "We look forward to welcoming you back to our resort and wish you a pleasant day." Given this lack of consideration, we will not be returning to this resort.

First time skiing with friends, a very large area with several sectors. We gained altitude quickly, the lifts were efficient, and there were few waits even though it was school holidays. However, the lower part of the area with the green and blue runs is very uninteresting, and the snow quality deteriorates rapidly. Despite the high altitude, most of the runs are located in the lower sectors. The runs are also not very varied, and the fun runs are of very poor quality compared to other resorts. The resort itself is nice, although a bit too "urbanized," lacking shops, bars, and restaurants at the base of the slopes.
Large ski area with several sectors, catering to all levels, and good lift capacity.
The lower part of the main ski area is rather uninteresting, very family-oriented, and therefore less suitable for young adults due to the atmosphere on and off the slopes; the snow quality is average on the south-facing slopes.

Excellent ski area, I've been coming here for several years. I just spent two weeks here, the last week before the school holidays, and I was surprised by the number of drunk skiers behaving extremely dangerously on the slopes. I was violently hit by a drunk skier (I injured a ligament in my hand) on a blue run.
Excellent ski area, varied and technical
behavior and incivility on the slopes

I spent a week there, and it was definitely too long. When there's fresh snow, the off-piste is incredible. It gets boring anyway. I've done Sarenne three times, and the route isn't particularly impressive (and ends with a long, flat descent, not great for snowboarders).
Apres ski, instructors
small selection of routes, non-existent snow park
