Sudelfeld Overview

Welcome to Sudelfeld – one of Bavaria’s largest and most popular ski areas, located just 80 kilometres south of Munich. With 31 kilometres of varied pistes across all difficulty levels, nestled in the scenic Wendelstein region, every skier will find terrain to suit their style. The resort features modern 8- and 6-seater chairlifts equipped with child safety systems, heated seats and weather protection hoods, ensuring a smooth and comfortable start to the day. Families are well catered for with two thoughtfully designed children’s areas, professional ski and snowboard lessons, and exciting events for all ages. Traditional alpine huts and mountain inns serve regional specialities on sunny terraces or in cosy dining rooms.

Sudelfeld boasts a state-of-the-art 8-seater chairlift at Sudelfeldkopf and a comfortable 6-seater at Waldkopf – both offering heated seats, child safety features and weather shields. Around 70% of the pistes are covered by snowmaking systems, ensuring reliable conditions throughout the season. Young skiers and families will enjoy the Funslope with its integrated children’s race track at the Wedellift, as well as two dedicated children’s areas with magic carpets and rope lifts. The Waldkopf service centre provides everything in one place: ski hire, servicing, a shop and ski storage. For added convenience, 2,100 free parking spaces are available for lift users. With the MVV ski pass, visitors can travel directly from Munich and surrounding areas to the resort with ease.

Sudelfeld has received multiple awards, including Germany’s Skiareatest Winner 2023, the International Piste Quality Seal and the Gold Snowmaking Trophy. Special offers include a family day pass for parents and their children aged 6 to 15, priced at just €129 for the 2025/26 season. The “Wednesday Deal” offers a day pass for only €37 every Wednesday from 7 January 2026. A discounted Happy Hour pass is also available daily from 2:30 PM. Sudelfeld is part of the Alpen Plus ski pass network, with multi-day and season passes valid across Sudelfeld, Spitzingsee-Tegernsee, Brauneck and Wallberg. The Alpen Plus Holiday Card is ideal for holidaymakers, valid in six areas including tobogganing and night skiing. The Alpen Plus Glacier Card expands the experience to seven areas plus the Stubai Glacier, valid from 1 October to 31 May – offering eight full months of mountain adventure.

Getting to Sudelfeld is straightforward via the A8 Munich–Salzburg motorway, exiting at Weyarn or Irschenberg and continuing through Bayrischzell. Roads are well maintained and regularly cleared in winter. There are 2,100 free parking spaces available directly at the resort for lift users. For those travelling by public transport, the Bayerische Oberlandbahn (BOB) runs to Bayrischzell, where a ski bus takes guests directly to the resort, timed to match lift operating hours.

International visitors typically fly into Munich Airport, located around 90 km away. From there, train connections via Munich Central Station lead to Bayrischzell. Shuttle services and rental cars are also available. The combination of train and bus offers a comfortable and environmentally friendly way to reach the resort – ideal for day trips or longer stays in the Alps.

Sudelfeld spans 769 hectares and features a varied topography with a vertical drop of 763 metres. The pistes are wide and well laid out, offering ideal conditions for both beginners and experienced skiers. The longest run stretches 4 km from Sudelfeldkopf down to the valley. In total, there are 31.1 km of pistes, plus 1.9 km of ski routes. The terrain includes 4.8 km for experts, 18.6 km for advanced skiers and 7.7 km for intermediate levels.

A standout feature is the modern 8-seater chairlift at Sudelfeldkopf, connecting the Grafenherberg area directly to the summit. The 6-seater chairlift at Waldkopf serves the lower Sudelfeld and provides access to several red runs. Both lifts offer heated seats, weather protection and child safety systems. Snowmaking covers 70% of the pistes, ensuring consistent conditions throughout the season.

The central Sudelfeld area is ideal for families and beginners, with gentle practice slopes, conveyor belts and two children’s areas featuring magic carpets and rope lifts. The Wedellift is especially popular with young skiers and includes the Funslope with a built-in children’s race track. Ski schools offer lessons for all ages and language levels.

Advanced skiers will find exciting challenges around Waldkopf and Rosengasse. The pistes are well groomed and offer varied terrain. One of the most recommended runs is piste 6 from Sudelfeldkopf – a long, consistent descent with stunning views of the Inn Valley.

Freestyle enthusiasts will enjoy the Actionwelt Snowpark in the central Sudelfeld area. The park features 12 jumps, rails and creative elements for all skill levels. It is regularly maintained and easily accessible by lift. Tubing fans will find a dedicated lane in the lift-served area.

The lift system includes 14 installations: one 8-seater, one 6-seater, one 4-seater, one triple chairlift, one double chairlift and nine drag lifts. Operating hours are daily from 08:30 to 16:30. The combination of modern technology, varied terrain and family-friendly facilities makes Sudelfeld one of the most versatile ski resorts in Upper Bavaria.

Early risers should head straight to piste 6 via the Sudelfeldkopf lift. This long descent offers perfect morning conditions and sweeping views of the Inn Valley. It pairs well with piste 5, which is ideal for rhythmic carving.

For a quieter ride, try the descent at Waldkopf. Piste 14 is wide, evenly graded and often overlooked – perfect for relaxed turns in the late morning. Around midday, it tends to be less crowded.

Children love the Funslope at the Wedellift. The integrated children’s race track adds excitement and a chance to practise racing. Right next to it is the children’s area with a magic carpet and rope lift – ideal for a half-day family outing.

Freestyle fans shouldn’t miss the Actionwelt Snowpark. The obstacles are varied and regularly refreshed. On sunny days, it’s a popular spot for riders and spectators alike.

For a scenic break, visit the Speckalm. Its sun terrace serves regional dishes with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. Indoors, the Rosengasse offers cosy lounges with a fireplace.

The best snow conditions are usually found between mid-January and early March. During this period, the groomed pistes are particularly grippy, and the elevation ensures stable weather. Early birds benefit from freshly prepared slopes.

Bayrischzell offers a 96 km cross-country trail network. The entry point is located in the village, and the routes are clearly signposted. A favourite among locals is the trail towards Geitau – peaceful, scenic and technically varied.

With the MVV ski pass, visitors can travel directly from Munich to the resort. The connection is reliable, and the pass covers the entire journey including lift access. It’s ideal for day trips without the hassle of parking.

A great tip for afternoon skiing is piste 18 at Waldkopf – often underestimated, but with a consistent gradient and good visibility, it’s a real treat to end the day.
