Isola 2000 Overview

Isola 2000 is located in the French Southern Alps within Alpes-Maritimes, overlooking the Tinée Valley and close to the Italian border. The resort starts at around 2,000 m and rises to approximately 2,610 m, providing favourable altitude for winter sports. The ski area covers 2,000 ha, offers 45 pistes, 19 lifts and around 120 km of skiing.

The piste network caters to a wide range of abilities. Approximately 16% of pistes are suitable for beginners, 49% for intermediates, 29% for advanced skiers and 7% for experts. High elevation, extensive snowmaking and open Alpine terrain help maintain reliable snow conditions throughout much of the season.

Isola 2000 stands out for combining substantial Alpine skiing with convenient access from the Mediterranean coast. Families benefit from beginner zones, a snowpark and tubing facilities, while experienced skiers enjoy longer descents and expansive views across the Southern Alps.

The main transport gateway for Isola 2000 is Nice. Nice Côte d’Azur Airport is the most convenient airport, while rail travellers typically arrive at Nice-Ville station. Seasonal bus services continue into the Tinée Valley and onwards to the resort. The final section of the journey climbs into the mountains from the coast.

Drivers usually travel via Nice, Saint-Sauveur-sur-Tinée and Isola. Roads are well signposted, although winter driving equipment may be required depending on conditions. Families and groups often find a car or private transfer most convenient, while solo travellers may prefer a combination of flight or rail travel to Nice followed by bus transport.

The terrain at Isola 2000 is open, high-altitude and expansive. The resort offers around 120 km of pistes across 2,000 ha, with a vertical difference of roughly 800 m and a highest point near 2,610 m. Despite its size, the layout remains relatively straightforward to navigate.

Beginners and families are best served by the gentler slopes near the main resort base, where it is easy to learn, practise and stay together throughout the day.

Intermediate skiers enjoy the greatest variety, with numerous blue and red pistes suited to long cruising runs. The longest piste stretches for approximately 4 km.

Advanced skiers can explore steeper red runs and black sections where stronger technical skills are rewarded, particularly during the quieter morning hours.

The snowpark adds variety for skiers and snowboarders looking to try freestyle features, while tubing offers a fun alternative for families.

One of Isola 2000's greatest strengths is its scenery. High Alpine terrain, sunshine and views towards Mercantour create a distinctive atmosphere compared with many northern French resorts.

Start skiing early to enjoy the best corduroy conditions and quieter pistes.

Families often find it worthwhile to stay close to the central area on their first day before exploring further across the mountain.

Intermediate skiers should make the most of the longer blue and red pistes during the morning when conditions are typically at their best.

On clear days, the higher sectors provide the finest panoramic views across the Southern Alps.

Save the snowpark or tubing for later in the day as a fun change of pace from regular piste skiing.
