Back from the resort today (a week's stay), numerous chairlift breakdowns daily, several times stuck 20 meters up in the air with the chairlift swaying wildly, first forwards... then backwards... Great for thrill-seekers, but a real nightmare for everyone else (serious stress hanging in mid-air...). A significant investment is needed to modernize the ski lifts and provide decent chairlifts... And what about the closure of the Lautaret Pass right under our noses, forcing us to take a 3-hour detour (backtracking and going through Gap)?
Large ski area
Outdated ski lifts

We were in Serre Chevalier the first week of January and the temperature was at an all time low. We absolutely froze on the slow uncovered lifts while the wind I swear was 80+ mph. The buses you have to pay for and we waited 40 minutes for one. Guess what - two came along together. We have been to SC in the past and loved the extensive range of pistes but it is about time they invested in updating the lifts to higher speeds and with covers for bad weather. For this reason and until that investment is made we will not be going back.

Great ski area when there's snow, but right now, Christmas 2025 and early January 2026, there's a terrible lack of snow. Only 46 out of 128 runs are open (2 out of 13 black, 13 out of 28 red, 20 out of 26 blue, and 11 out of 15 green), which is barely a third of the area... There's nothing they can do about it, but in that case, they should lower the price of the lift passes! The pass hasn't been cut in half... still €65 for a third of the ski area...
Large ski area, sunny resort
Expensive package and no discount if there's a lack of snow

Well-maintained and very varied slopes, few crowds, the only flaw is some dated facilities.

I'm delighted with the package, which is free for people with disabilities. I'll be back next year.
Large ski area, easily accessible resort

SCV is a fantastic resort. The ski area is vast, varied, and offers breathtaking views. With generally abundant sunshine and a friendly atmosphere, everything is in place for an unforgettable experience. A special mention goes to the Combes chairlift staff! Always welcoming and professional. Their chairlift management is impeccable, smooth, and efficient. It's a real pleasure to ski here, and a big thank you to the entire team who contribute to making your stay even more enjoyable.

Personally, I love living in Chantemerle for its sporty atmosphere, the nearby shops, and the entertainment, but for skiing I often go elsewhere, partly because of the exorbitant prices: for 60 euros as a senior, Alpe d'Huez is a completely different experience with its glacier at 3000 meters, comfortable chairlifts with wind protection options. Or Montgenèvre with a 45 euro senior pass and the added bonus of friendly and smiling staff, which isn't the case for some fixed-grip chairlifts like Aiguillette or Yret where you get literally insulted if you call them from their booth.
Beautiful estate among the larch trees, rarely foggy
Resort staff are often jaded, lazy if you ask for help, or unpleasant. The price is comparable to Alpe d'Huez or Les Deux Alpes, which offer access to the 3000 glacier, comfortable chairlifts, and optional wind protection instead of some other resorts.

I really recommend everyone go there
good off-piste level

The resort is magnificent, but there are huge shortcomings in its management. The beginner areas are insignificant given their number. The shuttle buses are not free and are rarely on time. The chairlift queues are poorly organized, the boarding areas are too small, and the waiting line is complete chaos. It's a shame because the resort itself is superb, and the ski area is excellent. Considering the price paid, I would put it on the list of resorts to avoid for those on a tight budget, and for everyone else, don't forget your car.
The inter-station bus connection is deplorable.
