The town is located in a sunny position on the alluvial cone of the Rio de Vael and is the seat of the 'Institute for the Ladin Culture'. In winter, the Ciampedie is a very renowned ski-area with an amazing viewpoint all over the Dolomites. Moreover, a ski bus service connects Vigo di Fassa to the other villages and ski areas of the valley.
