The Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski area is located in the upper &Ouml;tztal valley in Tyrol and is one of Austria&rsquo;s highest winter sports destinations. Thanks to its altitude, ranging from 1,800 to 3,030 metres, the region is particularly snow-sure &ndash; the winter season begins early (mid-November) and lasts well into spring (late April). The crisp mountain air, sweeping views and tranquil atmosphere make it an ideal destination for those seeking alpine winter sports combined with ultimate comfort and a high-alpine natural experience.
 With a total of 112 kilometres of pistes and 25 modern lifts, the Gurgl ski area offers a balanced mix of beginner-friendly slopes and challenging runs for experienced skiers. All pistes are wide, expansive and perfectly groomed &ndash; ideal conditions for enjoyable, flowing turns. Approximately 54% of the slopes are easy, 30% intermediate and 13% difficult, with a further 4% offering ski routes for even more variety. This well-balanced distribution ensures that Gurgl caters equally to novices and seasoned skiers alike. In Gurgl, alpine cuisine meets the highest culinary standards. Alpine cuisine takes regional dishes and ingredients and reinterprets them with a modern twist and great attention to detail. Remarkable mountain locations, such as the Hohe Mut Alm, surrounded by 21 peaks over 3,000 metres, or the Top Mountain Star at 3,030 metres with views reaching the Dolomites, turn culinary delights into a feast for the senses. Families benefit from excellent infrastructure: ski-in/ski-out accommodation, lifts directly on the doorstep and a beginner lift ensure relaxed holiday days. Travel to Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is straightforward: the nearest airport is Innsbruck, approximately 96 km away, with regular shuttle services that can be conveniently booked online. Alternatively, Munich or Zurich airports are accessible, with connecting train services to &Ouml;tztal Bahnhof and further by bus or taxi. Direct train connections from northern Germany and Austria also serve &Ouml;tztal Bahnhof.
Those arriving by car can reach Gurgl via the Inntal motorway and the well-maintained B186 road; even in winter, the route is generally easy to navigate. Winter equipment is essential.
Within the region, ski buses connect accommodations with lift stations and other &Ouml;tztal ski areas. Most hotels are also within immediate proximity to the slopes, making ski-in/ski-out possible almost everywhere in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl.

Accommodation in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ranges from cosy guesthouses to exclusive wellness hotels with direct piste access. Almost all properties offer ski-in/ski-out convenience, so your ski day starts right at your doorstep. Even if you don&rsquo;t stay directly on the slopes, you are always close to the skiing action &ndash; around 85% of all beds are no more than 250 metres from the nearest lift or piste.
 Couples can enjoy stylish chalets and spa hotels with panoramic views, while larger groups will find their ideal holiday base in spacious apartments or aparthotels. Hochgurgl stands for tranquillity and luxury, Obergurgl for a charming blend of tradition and modernity &ndash; together, they provide the perfect setting for a stylish winter holiday.

For a well-deserved pit stop, head to the rather special Hohe Mut Alm. The restaurant, which is situated on the mountain, serves a broad range of wonderful Tyrolean cuisine. Every Wednesday evening the restaurant has live music until&nbsp;10pm. A quick and free gondola ride will transport you there after&nbsp;6.30pm.&nbsp; There&rsquo;s a gorgeous bar too with an open fire where visitors can relax and feel comfortable.&nbsp; Get there via the Hohe Mut Bahn gondola.
Situated at the Hochgurgl ski area, Wurmkoglhutte at the mid-station has a tiled stove, a number of private dining rooms and a large sun terrace and deckchairs.&nbsp;
The Haus Gurgl Hotel serves good pizzas cooked in a wood stove oven. The restaurant is smart and offers a wide selection of a la carte dishes in addition to its crispy pizzas. The tiramisu dessert comes highly recommended. Prices are purse friendly.
And the&nbsp;Top Mountain Star panorama bar which sits at 3,080m above sea level is not to be missed.

The Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski area stretches over approximately 112 kilometres of piste, offering an impressive variety of terrain. The two ski areas, Obergurgl and Hochgurgl, are connected by the Top Express gondola, allowing seamless transitions. The altitude guarantees long-lasting snow reliability and spectacular views.
A special highlight is the 8 km run from Wurmkogl to Obergurgl, with a vertical drop of approximately 1,287 metres, making it one of the most impressive runs in the &Ouml;tztal.
Advanced skiers will enjoy the slopes around the Festkoglbahn and Hohe Mut Bahn II, which offer wide turns and smooth transitions. More challenging runs can be found around Gro&szlig;e Karbahn and Vordere Wurmkoglbahn I &amp; II, with numerous red and black runs featuring steep sections and alpine character.
The Steinmannbahn serves the Familypark as well as other easy and intermediate slopes, perfect for sporty families. Here, both steeper runs and the first jumps and tricks can be practised.
Off-piste enthusiasts will find open terrain with deep powder around the Kirchenkarbahn II, especially after fresh snowfall. This is not an officially designated off-piste area &ndash; alpine skills and awareness of potential risks are essential.
Additionally, Gurgl offers a natural toboggan run and winter playgrounds at Festkogl and Hohe Mut. Weekly night skiing allows for extra piste kilometres under floodlights &ndash; a special treat for those who can&rsquo;t get enough of skiing.

On a fresh snow day, head early to Kirchenkarbahn II. The upper sections often remain untouched, providing ideal conditions for powder skiing. Always check avalanche conditions! Especially rewarding is the blue or red run, which offers an impressive view of the Gurgler Valley.
A real hidden gem for quiet runs is the red piste at Schermer. While other areas are busier, this section often stays surprisingly empty. Its wide layout allows dynamic turns, and the evening light creates a special skiing experience.
Freeride fans will also enjoy the terrain below Festkogl Alm. Ski route No. 14 offers varied options for experienced skiers. An early start is recommended, as the sun reaches this area later, keeping the snow powdery and fresh.
Apr&egrave;s-ski in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is more relaxed. For a traditional atmosphere, visit Nederh&uuml;tte, directly on the Hohe Mut Bahn I run, offering Tyrolean cuisine and live music &ndash; particularly lively in the early evening. For a quieter end to the day, Zirben Alm near Steinmannbahn is a favourite with locals and provides a cosy setting.
A unique experience is the Top Mountain Star &ndash; a panoramic platform with a bar at 3,030 m, accessible via Wurmkogl II. Enjoy a 360&deg; Alpine view and a glass of champagne above the clouds. Early mornings are particularly peaceful here.
Families will enjoy Funmountain Gurgl, the Funslope and Familypark. These are not only a hit with children but also provide relaxed practice areas for adults wishing to refine their technique.
