You can buy for the whole Zillertal one card so you have the possibility to ski in all the different ski areas from the valley. But every area in Zillertal is exciting enough to spend time over there without getting bored. One very fabulous area is Gerlos. It was elected to one of the best skiing areas of the world. The slopes are very nice. They are very wide and you have all steps of difficulty. The area also offers many opportunities for freeriding, touring, bobsleighing and skating. So there are opportunities for everyone from the beginners to the experts. The area is huge so it takes quite a long time to get to know all the area. 3 different towns are connected to the area so you will probably see a different opportunity to stay in another hotel for the next year, Zillertal is also famous for its close living to the nature therefore you will also get very good local food. Also the town is very nice and also in the evenings you won´t get bored. A very good area what is not so famous like St. Anton or Sölden but it does not has to hide from these areas. I think his area is a really very good choice for making skiing holidays.
nature and very good area
sometimes crowded
Something for everyone although the advertized 227km, 59 lifts and 1 ticket caters to the intermediate crowd - and families, lots of families. The Horberg & Penken mountains are chock full of ski schoolers and beginners but the Finkenberg side has fewer skiers. Ski out to the valley is marginal (as of Feb 2) at best but possible. Outstanding frequent bus connections between all the mountains is included in the price of your lift ticket. Best place for wide-open bowl-type skiing is the Hintertuxer Glacier but beware of flat light since there aren't many trees to add contrast to the runs. As everywhere in Mayrhofen, beginners are everywhere and not exactly courteous.
I have had numerous trips to zillertal, and each time the resort hasn't failed to provide us with amazing skiing conditions, a great variety of ski runs and lifts; and also a good amount of restuarants dotted about the resort great for a pit-stop and fill up of hot-choclate, glue-wine, or apple strudel. I strongly recomend this resort, however, the only downside is that during peak times in the day, queues for runs and the gondola can be large. + just want to add that it has a kinder-garten ski school for younger children, so adults can go off and enjoy a bit off quality skiing while their child is being looked after, and even taugth how to ski!!!
