Zakopane is situated at the foot of Tatra Mountains, in Zakopiańska Hollow, from 750 to 1226 m a.s.l., which makes it the highest located city in Poland. Administratively it belongs to Lesser Poland Province. Zakopane is called the winter capital of Poland because it is the biggest ski resort surrounded by Tatra Mountains. Nearby the city there is Tatra National Park (Polish: Tatrzański Park Narodowy) located. You can get easily to Zakopane by bus or train. With both of them you can get from every bigger polish city. Car route leads trough the famous Zakopianka which is famous for its traffic jams. Skier and snowboarders will find In Zakopane a lot of well-prepared slopes, with T-bar, chair and gondola lifts. The best-known places are: Kasprowy Wierch, Gubałówka and Polana Szymoszkowa. In ski resorts, at the foot of mountains as well as on the top you can find a lot of inns and pubs, serving local specialisties. Nearby lifts there are ski schools and ski equipment rentals. Touristic base is very well-developed. Zakopane offers a lot of different accommodation in different prices and with different standard. Huge popularity of the city causes the necessity of earlier reservation, especially during Christmas, winter holidays and ski jump contests. Apart from slopes there are a lot of attractions waiting for the tourists. There is The Great Krokiew (Wielka Krokiew). It is a regular venue in the FIS Ski jumping World Cup. Thanks to cable cars, you can fast and easily get to the top of the local mountains, to admire the views. In the evenings you can use the offer of many pubs and restaurants. In Zakopane there are a couple of discos, which offer great fun till dawn. Moreover, being in Zakopane you can visit one of museums, galleries or the theatre. There are also folk events and festivals organized frequently. In Zakopane you cannot be bored.
