France snow report

France’s Alps are firing up for the festive season with fresh snow and plenty of pistes open. Base depths are strong in many big resorts, and terrain is opening fast as new snowfall settles. Standout resorts include Avoriaz (55-120cm) with a solid snowpack and a fully open ski domain. Chamonix (43-135cm) is another great early season bet with plenty of north-facing runs to hold the snow well.

Looking ahead, new snow is on the way with around 30cm forecast in Alpe d’Huez, Le Lioran, Auris en Oisans, Arvieux and Alpe du Grand Serre. Widespread light snow is also forecast for the majority of French resorts.

Austria snow report

Across Austria, recent snowfalls and cold spells have boosted snow cover and opened terrain in many major resorts. Large parts of Austria saw 30-50 cm fresh snow in recent days, lifting base depths and adding soft powder to early-season pistes.

Some of the best Christmas picks include Flachau (30-80cm) with powder conditions and has some of the most extensive open terrain; Saalbach (50-70cm); Ischgl (20-50cm) and Sölden (15-40cm) has over 100 km of skiable runs and boasts solid coverage.

Looking ahead, Austrian resorts are forecast widespread light snow which should freshen conditions nicely for Christmas skiers.
