I was initially surprised by how many slopes there are and how modern the facilities are. There's a lot of parking, and it's pleasant during the week, but the weekends are extremely crowded. I was there last January, and unfortunately, the weather was anything but wintry; it was only 10°C, and the slopes were wet and icy, with just white streaks in the green landscape. Unfortunately, Winterberg can't be blamed for its low altitude and the weather, but still, almost 95% of all the slopes were skiable, which was truly amazing. The snowmaking system is really powerful. Many runs are very short and not very steep, making them perfect for beginners. For more advanced skiers, I found the runs at the Kappe to be excellent. The slope at the ski jump was also surprisingly steep and saw several accidents, as it was almost entirely black ice. What I enjoyed most was the night skiing: many runs are illuminated at night, and you can grab a good cocktail at the après-ski bar.
