Hauser Kaibling - Haus im Ennstal Overview

Hauser Kaibling is the gateway mountain to the Schladming 4-Mountain Ski Area. Together with Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm, it links 123 kilometres of pistes and numerous modern lifts into one of the largest interconnected ski areas in the region – right in the heart of Ski amadé.

Plenty of parking is available directly at the valley station in Haus im Ennstal. From there, the Gipfelbahn summit lift climbs to 2,015 metres – the highest point in the entire Schladming 4-Mountain Ski Area.

Hauser Kaibling itself offers 37 kilometres of pistes for beginners, families and sporty skiers. Choose from wide runs such as the Osthang, the Höfi run and the Kaiblingalm run, plus the FIS World Cup downhill for ambitious skiers. Around the mid-station and the Kaiblingalm, the focus is on families: several blue runs, a practice area in the valley (Wollis Berg Welt) and childcare for the little ones make it easy to get started on skis.

At 1,800 metres, the Genussinsel relaxation area with free Wi-Fi invites you to take a break. A modern ski depot at the valley station rounds off the facilities.

Since 2008, Hauser Kaibling has also been known for its Almlamm (alpine lamb) project: in summer, more than 800 sheep graze the slopes and take over part of the piste maintenance – without any heavy machinery.

By car

From the west (Munich/Salzburg): A10 Tauern motorway to the Ennstal junction, then the B320 to Haus im Ennstal.
From the east (Vienna): A2, S6 Semmering, A9 Pyhrn motorway to Liezen, then the B320.
From Upper Austria/Germany (e.g. Nuremberg): via Passau – Wels – A9 towards Selzthal – then the B320.
From Italy (Udine): via Arnoldstein – Villach – A10 Tauern motorway – Ennstal junction – B320.

By bus or ski bus
- Regional and long-distance bus lines take you directly to the valley station.
- Ski buses connect the surrounding villages free of charge with a valid ski pass.
- For groups and coaches: dedicated coach parking, a drivers' lounge and a food and drink voucher.

By train
- Located on the Salzburg–Graz railway line.
- Express train stations: Schladming and Gröbming. Regional train stations: Haus im Ennstal and Öblarn.
- In winter, ski bus connections from the station.

By plane
- Salzburg (SZG): 90 km – approx. 1 hr
- Linz (LNZ): 155 km – approx. 1 hr 30 min
- Graz (GRZ): 160 km – approx. 1 hr 50 min
- Munich (MUC): 220 km – approx. 2 hrs
- Vienna (VIE): 280 km – approx. 2 hrs 50 min

From the top station at 2,015 metres, the Osthang descends to the valley with wide slopes and open panoramic views – one of the most popular runs on the mountain. Sporty skiers will find a long, challenging course with top grooming on the FIS World Cup downhill. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, choose the Höfi run or the Kaiblingalm run. For experienced skiers, the black Panorama run offers views over the Enns Valley. To end the day, the scenic Prenner valley run leads straight back to the valley station.

Höfi-Express when it's busy: When the 8-person gondola is crowded, the Höfi-Express is often the more relaxed way into the Schladming 4-Mountain Ski Area.

Schafsinn circular trail: Around 5.6 km, with a shorter, pushchair-friendly stage and a more demanding option for sure-footed hikers – past sheep, viewpoints and the Kaiblingalm hut for a bite to eat.

Reservoir on the way to the Kaiblingalm: From the Rossfeldsattel, a small reservoir makes a lovely spot for a break along the way.

"Auf den Spuren der Pioniere" themed trail: A lesser-known hiking trail with historical stations on the development of mountain sports in the region.

Early-bird tip: Head up on the first gondola for the best piste conditions and quiet lifts and huts.

Almlamm project in summer: More than 800 sheep spend the summer on the mountain – a visit to the shepherd shows another side of the area.
