Visited Vamdalen in January 2006 and 2007 with my then young family. Great snow but can be very cold, -18 most days, but if appropriately dressed it's not a problem. We were told Spring is a more pleasant time to ski there. It's a lovely small resort with everything close at hand. All apartments and a hotel are at the bottom of the slopes. I think it has grown a little since we were there. There were quiet a lot of t-bar lifts but now almost twenty years later this may be different. Skiing great for beginners and intermediates but more experts might get a bit bored after a couple of days. I fell and broke a bone in my hand whilst there the first time and the speed and efficiency of both the resort doctor and the local hospital were second to none. Such lovely people. I travelled to the hospital by taxi, leaving my husband and children back in the resort. Taxi driver even came back to the hospital to see if i needed a lift back to the hotel, helping me put on my coat and tie my boot laces! Which was hard with a hand in plaster. You wouldn't get that in the UK or the Alps! Short transfer from Ostersund airport. The skiing is not extensive like many European resorts but for a gentle ski holiday or with a young family it was perfect.
