Kappl Overview

Kappl ski area is nestled in the Paznauntal and forms part of the Kappl & See ski circuit – a partnership between two Tyrolean resorts offering over 80 km of pistes. Kappl itself features around 35 hectares of varied terrain, stretching from 1,200 m to 2,690 m. Its sunny aspect and altitude ensure reliable snow conditions and a pleasant climate for winter sports.

With 10 lifts – including the modern Diasbahn gondola, several chairlifts and drag lifts – and 22 runs, Kappl offers a well-balanced mix for all ability levels. Families benefit from the compact layout, the Sunny Mountain Adventure Park with practice area and ski carousel, and wide, clearly laid-out slopes.

Getting to Kappl is straightforward via the Inntal motorway to the Pians exit, followed by the Paznauntal road into the village centre. Roads are well maintained year-round and regularly cleared in winter. Parking is available in the village, and the Diasbahn base station is easily reached.

International guests typically fly into Innsbruck or alternatively Munich. From Innsbruck, rail connections run to Landeck-Zams, with onward travel by public bus into the Paznauntal. Many accommodations offer shuttle services to the lift station or assist with transfer arrangements. The train-and-bus combination is especially convenient and environmentally friendly.

Kappl’s terrain stretches across sunny south-facing slopes and offers an impressive variety of runs. The modern Diasbahn takes guests straight into the heart of the ski area, where most pistes fan out from a central hub. The altitude of up to 2,690 m ensures consistent snow conditions and clear views of the surrounding peaks.

Beginners and families will feel at home around the Sunny Mountain Adventure Park. This area includes gentle practice slopes, magic carpets and the children’s zone with ski carousel and full-day supervision. Intermediate skiers will find sporty challenges around the Alblittbahn and the chairlift to the Lattenabfahrt. The Lattenabfahrt itself is 8 km long and drops 1,000 vertical metres – ideal for endurance training and rhythmic carving. The Speed Route on red piste No. 12 is a highlight for those who love to pick up pace.

Freeriders are well catered for in Kappl. Off-piste terrain includes numerous powder slopes, especially around the Ablittköpfe. Safety is a priority – avalanche warnings, snow depth and temperature data are displayed on freeride info boards, and a transceiver checkpoint is available.

Freestyle enthusiasts can head to the Alblitt Funpark, which features kickers, rails, tubes and boxes suitable for beginners and advanced riders. The park is regularly maintained and easily accessed by lift. A chill-out area with music and mountain views invites guests to relax between sessions.

Early risers should head straight up the Diasbahn to the Lattenabfahrt. This long descent is especially quiet in the morning and offers a perfect blend of endurance and scenery across its 8 km length. The consistent gradient is ideal for carving.

A top tip for freeriders is the terrain around the Ablittköpfe. After fresh snowfall, the north-facing slopes remain untouched for longer, and the views over the Paznauntal are spectacular. The transceiver checkpoint at the entry point adds an extra layer of safety.

Families should make time for the Sunny Mountain Adventure Park. The children’s area with ski carousel, magic carpet and supervision is easily accessible and provides ideal conditions for first turns. Its proximity to dining options makes the experience even more enjoyable.

For a peaceful run, try piste No. 5 on the edge of the ski area. It’s less busy and offers a smooth ride with views of the surrounding peaks. It’s especially quiet in the afternoon.

For a scenic break, visit the Sunny Mountain Panorama Bar at 2,100 m. The sun terrace serves regional specialities and overlooks the snowy mountains – perfect for a relaxed lunch stop.

Freestyle fans shouldn’t miss the Alblitt Funpark. The obstacles are varied and regularly refreshed. On sunny days, the park becomes a popular meeting point for riders and spectators alike.

The Speed Route on red piste No. 12 is a must for anyone who enjoys skiing fast. The slope is perfectly groomed and delivers a real race feel – without the crowds.

Skiers who enjoy off-piste terrain will find several marked ski routes in Kappl. One of the best is the route above the Lattenabfahrt – combining sporty sections with quieter stretches.

A surprisingly good spot for sunsets is the area above the Alblittbahn. The light in the early evening is striking, and the view stretches far down the valley.

To round off the day, take piste No. 2 back to the base station. The run is wide and consistent, offering a gentle glide with views of Kappl village – ideal for a stylish finish.
