My family and I were there February 14-21. We loved the village of Zermatt and the scenery. We also had fantastic meals. We found the area to be beginner/intermediate, without much to offer when looking for a challenging run. We received close to 3 feet of snow and when I’d normally be excited for that, it was terrible. I understand the risk of avalanche is real, but the amount of time it took to reopen the terrain during a busy holiday week was beyond slow. I’m glad we went, but it’s one of those places to check off on the list and then move on…

  • Beautiful scenery, great restaurants, well connected lift system
  • Challenging terrain is non-existent, very slow to open terrain after a significant snowfall

We were unable to ski on the Cervina link; the lift pass, even with insurance, was not refunded because there were not two consecutive days of skiing.

In my opinion, fixed pricing policies are rather customer-unfriendly, and flexible fares are often extra expensive for last-minute bookings and holidays like Easter. We had a bad experience with refunds due to bad weather; we received a Welcome Back ticket valid for one year, but when the tickets expired, we were left with nothing. In Cervinia, tickets are cheaper and more flexible; they don't offer flexible fares.

  • Large ski resort
  • Expensive lift tickets, flexible pricing, and a poor refund policy in case of bad weather.

A resort memorable for the quality of its ski area, its panorama, its gastronomy and the après-ski atmosphere.

  • Large area with well-maintained slopes, good snow quality considering the altitude, efficient ski lifts and a majestic panorama with the Matterhorn and the Monte Rosa massif.
  • Access to the domain is not possible in bad weather/wind.

It's an excellent resort in every respect. Special mention goes to the piste preparation; from 2500m onwards, the snow is superb until April.

  • Magnificent village. Excellent restaurants. Historic hotels. Sublime scenery. The most beautiful resort in the world.

A pedestrian-only resort (though be aware of the numerous electric taxis constantly crisscrossing the village), the village center is picturesque but very fashionable and lively (most major watch and sporting goods brands are present). A large ski area with a majority of red runs; very long slopes with significant vertical drops. Many gondolas, which is convenient in very cold weather. Lift passes and food prices in general are quite high. The resort is better suited to experienced skiers than beginners. Besides downhill skiing, many other activities are offered: snowshoeing, ice skating, ski touring, etc. I like to go there regularly for short breaks (3 to 5 days).

  • Large ski area spanning two countries, the highest ski slope in Europe
  • Very few "ski-in/ski-out" accommodations, but the free shuttle takes you to the 3 main lifts.

Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful ski areas in Europe, between Zermatt and Cervinia Valtournenche. Unfortunately, Zermatt is a victim of its own success and, unlike Cervinia, offers no discounts for seniors. Furthermore, Zermatt's bus system, which connects to the lifts, is inadequate during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Many skiers are left stranded due to overcrowding and lack of space on the buses, forced to wait for another one to arrive. Finally, during the Christmas/New Year period, the danger on the Swiss and Italian slopes is constant due to the number of skiers and snowboarders who enjoy high speeds, which are unsuitable in crowded conditions. That said, outside of school holidays, it's the best skiing, with ultra-modern lifts, well-maintained slopes, and breathtaking views of the 4,000-meter peaks surrounding the ski area.

  • Between Zermatt in Switzerland and Cervinia-Valtournenche in Italy, one of the most beautiful ski areas in Europe
  • No packages for seniors in Zermatt, unlike in Cervinia.

The highest ski area in Europe, starting from the summit at 3883m, Maitre, you can descend either into Italy or Switzerland down to 1600m

Superb site and ski area, magnificent panoramas, beautiful and long runs of all difficulty levels, a wide variety of mountain restaurants, and excellent service. Access to Italy is a bonus. It's hard to do without it once you've experienced it!

  • Superb ski area
  • Access to the slopes is sometimes limited due to the wind.

I dream of going back there

  • Breathtaking scenery, guaranteed excellent snow conditions, diverse and consistently high-performing ski lifts, the ability to ski from Switzerland to Italy, and a wide variety of mountain restaurants.
  • Ski-in/ski-out access is not always possible, and bus stops are not always well signposted.
