A ski resort's overall star rating displayed here is not calculated based on a simple average but takes several factors, including the age of a review, into account.
A large, modern ski area with the Vars-Risoul link, Vars has seen significant infrastructure investment. The resort boasts a beautiful wooded area encompassing the Écrins valley and a lovely hinterland (Saint Paul sur Ubaye). A charming resort, it's comprised of small villages catering to all tastes. As a high-mountain resort, Vars guarantees reliable snow throughout the winter season. Furthermore, substantial investments have been made in water sources, enabling continuous artificial snowmaking. The ski slopes are well-maintained, ensuring enjoyable days on the slopes. Shops throughout the resort are of high quality, particularly the bakery at Point Chaud and the butcher shop in Les Claux. However, in recent years, lift pass prices have skyrocketed, as have prices at mountain restaurants. You can improve your purchasing power with the Saturday lift pass discounts offered. For those on a tighter budget, it's wiser to rent in the smaller villages before the resort center (Saint Marcellin, Sainte Marie, etc.). The resort is well-served by its bus network. The 18-30 age group might not find what they're looking for. It's true that Risoul has better après-ski options.

I went by chance in early April. It's a beautiful ski resort, with a large area and not too crowded on weekends because it's far from major cities. The drive from Italy is a bit long, but not in terms of kilometers, as there's plenty of highway. For example, it's 250 km from Genoa, with only a hundred or so highways to get to Cuneo. This, however, offers a cost advantage in terms of highway costs. In the Cuneo area, you can already buy discounted ski passes for Italians at participating locations. You'll save about €5.

Whether it's for a weekend or a week, there's plenty to do in the Forêt Blanche ski area. I've included a few iconic runs in the comments, and if conditions are perfect, why not try the Olympique run like a pro, without stopping? Your thighs will burn, but the variety of gradients will take you to new heights!
The Vars resort is evolving, with significant investment in the lifts, resulting in generally shorter wait times. There are many stunning viewpoints (going up to Peynier is definitely worth it) and off-piste spots scattered throughout. There's plenty to keep families entertained. Vars is a top destination, and for those who appreciate the charm, stay in the small village of Vars Sainte-Marie – it truly embodies the spirit of a small mountain village :)

The resort lacks charm, and the après-ski scene is very limited. Parking is difficult, and the slopes are uninteresting. The ski area is accessible to all levels, and an effort has been made to modernize the lifts. It's a resort frequented by people from Marseille, so it's best to visit outside of school holidays.

A lovely ski area for a resort in the high Alps, which always has snow thanks to its high altitude.
The equipment, including chairlifts, is changed regularly.

My ski holiday in Vars was the best I've ever had; I highly recommend it.

This mayor is a joke; he should leave things to those who know what they're doing. A mayor is a mayor, and he should focus on managing his town before acting like a resort manager. The lift pass prices are outrageous, the new lifts are poorly designed, and the return to the resort after using these new lifts is truly abysmal. As a result, the resort doctors are extremely busy!

We come to Vars when there's no sign of snow in the province of Cuneo... the road over the Maddalena pass is long, but it's always worth it! The slopes are varied, very well marked (the area is large, but the signs are clear and there are no difficulties finding your way), the scenery is stunning, and... I particularly appreciate the decision to leave some slopes of varying difficulty ungroomed.

A huge thank you to the snow groomers who do a remarkable job and prepare the slopes perfectly.
Very pleasant shopkeepers.
The best restaurant: Les Escondus.
